Recommendations to help people solve problems by connecting them with the right professionals and organizations. The First United Church Housing Society manages three buildings that provide affordable housing to residents of the Downtown Eastside and Mount Pleasant neighbourhoods. Two buildings near the church offer a mix of studios, one bedroom, two bedrooms and three bedrooms with 70 units at Bill Hennessey Place and 86 units at Jennie Pentland Place. In Mount Pleasant, Ledingham Place offers 33 units, primarily family and senior housing. Everyone deserves access to justice.
That`s why we`ve been providing legal support since the 1970s. We provide much-needed legal assistance, advice and representation to vulnerable and low-income people in the Downtown Eastside. Today, we support our customers with over 2,800 unique cases a year, helping people solve a range of problems. Our lawyers offer a wide range of legal advisory services, but focus primarily on rental and social assistance issues. First United Church provides information and advocacy. Their services include crisis intervention, housing brokerage, employment insurance assistance, assistance with income tax forms, referrals to unions for labour disputes, and community programs for residents of Vancouver`s Downtown Eastside. They are in the process of changing their admission hours and soon their advocacy location. Currently, they have admission Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.; Tuesday and Thursday from 12:00 to 14:30. These admission periods last until September 10, 2010, but may be revised at a later date. They are in the process of adding a few more recording sessions and are considering a possible evening session, but it will take at least a few weeks to reconfigure their schedule.
