If you get married in court, you can buy a certified copy of your marriage if you pay for the civil marriage. Weddings are only celebrated by appointment. If you wish to hold your ceremony at the courthouse, please contact the Permit Department at 240-777-9460 or in person. You must obtain your marriage certificate before you can schedule a ceremony. The fee for the ceremony is $25 in cash or money order. The cost of a certified copy is $5.50; An uncertified copy costs $0.50. Fees for any of the following fees, with the exception of ceremonies, can be paid in cash, money order, or Visa/Mastercard (credit cards can only be used if you are going to court in person). Personal and American Express cheques are not accepted. Parties do not need to bring specific identification when they receive a marriage certificate. Correction of marriage certificates must be requested in writing (with supporting documents – for example, a birth certificate to prove that your name is spelled differently from your marriage certificate). If the error was made by the licensing department, no fee will be charged for the correction. You complete the Marriage Licence Correction Application Form (PDF) and submit it to the Licensing Department.
This form must be sworn in and signed before a court clerk or similar official at the applicant`s domicile. The parties then sign the marriage application form and give the clerk the social security number of each party who has a social security number. (Please note that the marriage application form is not online as parties must appear in person.) If a couple married in another state or country and one of the parties is a citizen of Maryland, the couple can register the marriage (“foreign marriage”) with the licensing department. The parties must present a marriage certificate signed by the person who contracted the marriage or a certified copy of the marriage register. If incorrect information was provided at the time of your marriage proposal, you must file a petition with the Family Department to correct a marriage certificate with supporting documents as well as a $165 fee. The Family Department will open a new lawsuit and it will be sent to the judge so that an order can be made. Certified copies of marriage licenses beginning in 1993 are available from the Montgomery County Circuit Court. Participants in the ceremony do not have to take a number. You should arrive ten minutes early. The ceremony lasts ten minutes and rings are optional. Cookies are not necessary. The MAXIMUM capacity for a civil wedding is SIX (6) people, including ceremony participants. Guests must wait in the lobby. They must be on time.
